This paper describes results and lessons learned from years of close collaborations between the authors computational and experimental groups toward the fundamental understanding, modeling, and control of the instabilities associated with two-and three-dimensional boundary layers over the speed range from low-speed to hypersonic. Particular focus will be on recent advances both in subsonic swept-wing flows and in hypersonic flows.
