abstract
We discuss a novel technique for phase matching parametric gain in nonlinear waveguides. We show that the gain may be extended to regions of normal or large anomalous dispersion for arbitrary detuning through the introduction of a passive linear waveguide that is weakly coupled and nearly phase matched to the system. Evolution equations are solved exactly in the perturbation limit, and maps of the gain region as well as plots of the evolution of the various modes are presented for a variety of parameter sets. 1994 Optical Society of America.
