abstract

  • This edition of correspondence from World War I, with an introduction and explanatory notes, includes transcriptions of 89 letters from Fliegerfunker (aerial radio operator) brothers Hugo and Kurt Hasskerl and 60 letters to/from Schtze (machine gunner) August Rose. All three men served with the German 2nd Army, headquartered in Cambrai, France, in 1917-1918. The originals were handwritten on various kinds of wartime and military stationery in the Kurrentschrift cursive style now long archaic in Germany. They are part of the Cooper K. Ragan Military History Collection, Cushing Memorial Library and Archives, Texas A&M University, in College Station, Texas.
