Oral delivery of salmon calcitonin with ovomudoids

In the present study, salmon calcitonin (sCT) was formulated as an oral dosage form with turkey ovomucoid (tOVM) and glycyrrhetinic acid along with other excipients. Safety and efficacy of these two excipients was evaluated by in vitro and in vivo techniques. The oral formulation of sCT was targeted to jejunum while bypassing the stomach and duodenum regions. The enteric-coated osmotically controlled drug delivery system was successfully applied to formulate targeted oral dosage form containing sCT along with the enzyme inhibitor and absorption enhancer.
