abstract
The relaxation behaviour of single-domain magnetic particles is investigated. The first non-vanishing eigenvalue of an appropriate Fokker-Planck equation, characterising the dynamical response as well as the decay of the metastable states of the system, is calculated using a variational approach. The lower bound to the eigenvalue is also computed. The present treatment yields estimates for the eigenvalues that are better than those obtained by the Kramers method.
