abstract
The general relations among the coherence matrices of the incident, reflected, and transmitted beams at the surface of a dielectric are obtained for incident fields of arbitrary statistics and polarization. The Poynting vector is also expressed in terms of the coherence matrices and the general conditions for the nonvanishing of the lateral Goos-Haenchen shift are obtained.
