abstract
The difficulty with traditional wave data needed for variety of applications may be overcome by using the large amounts of data collected in recent years by the US Navy Geostationary Satellite (GEOSAT). Global oceanographic information for some 30 oceanographic parameters were recorded every second. These data are processed and disseminated to the user community. Significant wave height measure by an onboard altimeter were calculated as an average of 10 values recorded every second.
