abstract
This review outlines the true substrate scope for alkenes in asymmetric hydrogenations and highlights areas for which further research is justified. Topics discussed include the (i) general challenges with respect to asymmetric hydrogenations of largely unfunctionalized alkenes, (ii) achiral catalysts for homogeneous hydrogenations of tri- and tetrasubstituted alkenes, (iii) titanium-, zirconium-, and lanthanide-based metallocene catalysts, (iv) iridium-based catalysts, and (v) rhodium- and ruthenium-based catalysts.
