Gas hold-up and bubble size distribution in bubble columns with foaming and non-Newtonian fluids Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • The present work was undertaken with objectives to study the effect of liquid composition (pure fluids and aqueous mixtures of n-butanol and carbonymethyl and cellulose and physical properties on gas hold-up and Sauter mean bubble diameter in bubble columns. These parameters determine the specific gas-liquid interfacial area and consequently the mass transfer rate in bubble column reactors. Gas hold-up and Sauter diameters were determined as a function of superficial gas velocity, sparger design and column diameter. The operating conditions and the geometric parameters were chosen to ensure achievement of several important flow regimes, ideal bubbly, slug flow churn-turbulent and foaming regime.
