abstract
The conductivity of amorphous samples prepared from a base glass composition of 57 wt% PbO - 43 wt% B2O3 with additions of 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 wt% PbI2 has been investigated. Conductivity was measured as a function of temperature using a d.c. resistance measurement technique and confirmed at higher temperatures by a.c. complex admittance analysis. An Arrhenius temperature relationship was observed below the glass transition temperature (Tg). An activation energy of 1.4 eV was independent of PbI2 content. The bulk conductivity was 4.0610-11 (ohm-cm)-1 at 350C for samples containing 50 wt% PbI2. A distinctive change in slope occured near Tg and coincided with devitrification of the glass. 1986.
