abstract
Pourbaix diagrams of the tantalum-water system are constructed for temperatures between 25 degree C and 300 degree C from the free energies of formation of the Ta, TaO//2** plus , HTaO//3, TaO//3** minus , Ta//2O//5, and H//2O species. These diagrams are useful for predicting the stability of tantalum in aqueous solutions at elevated temperatures, and for interpreting the corrosion behavior of this metal which is frequently used for the containment of aggressive fluids in industrial systems.
