Fatigue of fibre-reinforced ceramics Conference Paper

abstract

• The literature concerning fatigue of continuous fibre-reinforced ceramics is reviewed with emphasis on the work reported in the last four years. No definitive explanations of the fatigue mechanisms appear to have been made. Some thoughts and a model for understanding the mechanisms are presented here. The author's fatigue life diagram proposed previously for polymer based composites is discussed as a possible basis, with modifications, for describing fatigue behaviour of fibre-reinforced ceramics.
