abstract
This paper presents a review of the recent advances in damage mechanics aimed at developing a methodology for life prediction of composite structures. The discussion is organized in three areas: initiation of damage, evolution of damage and inelastic response caused by damage. A strategy for life prediction under long term loading is then discussed.
