A recent claim that forbidden nuclear beta decay can, by the application of a high-intensity radio-frequency field, be enhanced by many orders of magnitude is contested. The effect is shown to be nonexistent, at least within the theoretical model which has been adopted thus far. © 1984 The American Physical Society.
