abstract
The gain bandwidth of ordinary laser output is governed by the decay rates of two transition lines in a homogeneous medium or by the Doppler width in an inhomogeneous medium. We incorporate the transient linenarrowing effect and a servo control system to generate a laser output that has a much narrower gain profile than that of an ordinary laser. The limiting gain bandwidth of this laser is governed by the transient time of the pumping mechanism. These results could be applied as a means of stabilizing lasers. 1990, Optical Society of America.
