Reliability Evaluation of Smart Grid System with Large Penetration of Distributed Energy Resources Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • 2018 IEEE. The distribution system is a vital link between the bulk electricity network and its customers. Reliability is a crucial element in the design and operation of smart grid distributed system. Reliability evaluation in a distribution system is an important matter for both utilities and customers. The penetration level of distributed energy resources is increasing significantly and it is expected to grow more over the next years. Therefore, this paper presents a distribution system reliability assessment of smart grid with the presence of high penetration of renewable energy resources. Reliability evaluation of distribution networks in smart grid for both operating modes (grid-connected and islanded) will be based on load point indices and system reliability indices. The IEEE 30-bus network with large-scale PV, and gas turbines will be used for the simulations. This simulation study will show that the integration of distributed energy resources can improve the reliability indices of the distribution networks in smart grid.
