For most of their existence, human beings have survived through the collective efforts of family members (Lenski et al. 1991). Food production at the subsistence level, for example, has almost always involved family labor and management. Even in more recent times, during which corporate farming has increased, family members form these economic structures (Mcintosh 1996).
