Nonlinear Pulse Propagation in Optical Metamaterials

2015 American Scientific Publishers. Theoretical study of nonlinear optical pulse propagation in metamaterials is presented in this paper. A finite element based analytical formulation of dispersive characteristics of negative index materials have been carried out. The analytical results were supported by the results obtained from simulation using commercial software package that demonstrate wave guiding properties in waveguides with negative indices. Simulation also demonstrates both forward and backward propagated waves in bended waveguides implemented in photonic crystal metamaterials. The dispersion and loss parameters have been used to simulate short duration pulses propagated through the guided media. The theoretical results guide us to characterize the light wave propagation through optical metamaterials.
