We investigate the physical features of coherent supercontinuum generation from femtosecond pulses propagated through a photonic crystal fiber (PCF). The signal can be filtered at a near infrared wavelength region, which has applications in bimolecular imaging or chemical detection using spectroscopy. Input pulse parameters such as pulse width and pulse average power were also tuned to achieve optimal signals at desired wavelengths that fall into the fingerprint region of different bio-molecular structures as well as other chemicals. Numerical investigation was done to check the signal coherency and other spectral features of output signal generated from the input pump signal at different wavelengths. Theoretical results provide reasonable correlation with previously reported experimental results and guidance for future experiments on microscopic object detection and biomolecular imaging.
