abstract
Conversion from AC to AC is very critical issue in Wind Energy Conversion System (WECS), therefore too many topologies have been proposed in the literature, one of these topologies is the direct matric converter. Direct Matrix Converter (DMC) is a powerful solution for AC/AC electric energy conversion. DMC is used to convert ac input voltage into ac output voltage but with different amplitude, frequency and different number of phases. A five to three phase matrix converter with Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM) is proposed in this paper. Five to three phase matrix converter is able to convert five phase input voltages into three phase output voltages with different voltage and frequency. Using Five to three phase matrix converter enables the usage of five phase generation system, which has some advantages over three phase system such as smaller size, higher efficiency and higher voltage amplitude for the same power. SVPWM is used to control the fifteen switches of the matrix. SVPWM enables to control the amplitude and frequency of the converter output current and also achieves unity power factor between input current and voltage. To investigate proper operation of the proposed control real time simulation on dspace platform has been carried out. 2013 IEEE.
