Microbiological evaluation of the hygenic Ultrafil heated gutta-percha delivery system. Academic Article uri icon

abstract

  • Summary. The Ultrafil heated guttapercha delivery system was evaluated to determine if (i) the prepackaged guttapercha used in the system was contaminated and antimicrobial, (ii) the guttaperchacontaining cannules were packaged in a sterile state, and (iii) a combination of alcohol soak and low heat was sufficient to eliminate any contaminating microbes. The results showed that although the guttapercha did not appear to be contaminated with cultivable bacteria, the cannules were contaminated with microorganisms that could not be totally eliminated by alcohol soak and low heat. Suggestions for the maintenance of clinical asepsis when using this technique are provided. Copyright 1990, Wiley Blackwell. All rights reserved
