abstract
Studies the development of entropy based approaches and presents the theoretical principles behind entropy and probability distribution and the principles of maximum entropy. Outlines derivation of relative entropy with fractile constraints. Examines how the principle of maximum entropy (POME) is applied in hydrology, tabulating probability distributions based on POME. Outlines applications in catchment modelling, network design, redundancy measures and open channel hydraulics. (C.J.U.)
