CHARACTERIZATION OF THE AGING OF THERMAL GENERATORS FOR RELIABILITY ASSESSMENT. Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • In power systems reliability studies it is usual to model the rate of occurrence of failures (ROCOF) as a constant value. This assumption allows the reliability analyst to take advantage of properties of the exponential distribution and the Markovian stochastic process. The aim of this paper is to describe the application of a more realistic alternative model. The mathematical model, solution algorithms utilized and data characteristics are discussed. One real application is illustrated and a set of numerical results is listed. One of the main contributions of this paper is to show that the non-homogeneous Poisson process may be taken as a good first order choice, whenever thermal generators ageing phenomena are to be modelled for reliability assessment purposes.
