  • 2013 Springer-Verlag Wien. All rights reserved. Immediately after birth, the capacity of small intestine enterocytes to transport amino acids in their free from and as oligopeptides from the luminal content to the bloodstream appears high but decreases thereafter. Although the pig proximal colon may participate in the amino acid absorption within few days after birth, this capacity becomes undetectable thereafter.
