abstract
Barboides britzi, new species, is described from the Oum River basin in southern Benin. It differs from B. gracilis, its only congener, in having a larger head, smaller eye, slightly longer caudal peduncle, a narrow ventromedian row of melanophores between pelvic fins and tips of cleithra, absence of scattered melanophores on the flanks, iris silvery, 1 hypural element above the 2nd hypural, and a yellow body colouration in life. A neotype is designated for B. gracilis and a list of miniature African freshwater fishes species is provided. 2006 by Verlag Dr. Friedrich Pfeil.
