Dynamics and genetic modelling of soil systems. Academic Article uri icon

abstract

  • Pedologists view soils as dynamic systems, but most people regard them as one of the more stable components of our environment. The fluxes of the soil system are described, equilibrium is compared with the steady state, and the role of kinetics in pedogenesis is outlined. The final section develops models such as state factor analysis, energy model, residual and haplosoil model, and a generalised process model, a soil-landscape model, a general systems theory. No models are totally acceptable: all have conceptual value. -K.Clayton
