abstract

• The time-motion study and cost analysis of on-farm feed manufacturing was conducted in Clay County, Kansas, during winter 1994. Data were collected from 17 swine producers using portable grinder-mixers. Grinding required an average of 17.3 min; batching (proportioning ingredients), 9.4 min; and delivery, 13.7 min. Forty-two minutes were required for manufacturing one batch of feed. Average feed cost for on-farm feed manufacturing was $8.06 per 907 kg ($8.06/ton).
