Filtered Rayleigh scattering (FRS) is studied in the context of understanding temperature and pressure sensitivity. A computational model case of the Gaussian scattering lineshape (low y-parameter) and the iodine absorption spectrum (laser wavelength of about 532.26 nm) is presented. Temperature and pressure sensitivities are modelled with respect to experimental parameters (e.g. cell vapor pressure, laser frequency, observation angle) as well as varying temperature and pressure. The model shows that for temperatures of 300, 500, and 1000 K with fluctuation T = 100 K, the FRS signal only varies by about 2%, 4%, and 5%, respectively. Temperature insensitivity is discussed and experimentally demonstrated with good agreement between 295-420 K by changing the observation angle. A modelled comparison between a Gaussian filter and a notch filter is also presented to understand the validity of a fully analytical FRS model.
