abstract
We show how it is possible to improve the efficiency of a laser system by adding a classical heat engine cycle to the laser's gaseous working media that can recover both thermal and internal waste energy from the gas. Experimental implementation of a pulsed CO2 laser combined with a gas expansion cycle is discussed. 2005 The American Physical Society.
