Characterization of Volumetric Change in Collagen using THz Time Domain Spectroscopy for In-Body Nanonetworks Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • In this paper, we present the experimental validation of material properties of dermis layer of the skin via THz Time Domain Spectroscopy. The skin layer is biologically modeled with a fibrous protein structure collagen and fibroblast cells. The variation of hydration level is investigated by decreasing the volume of type 1 collagen reagent. The refractive index value demonstrates that there is negligible change with variation in volume. These results highlight the fact that collagen reagent variation doesn't influence the water dynamics and hence pathloss parameters will remain unaffected.
