  • 'Tsugaru' (Malus domestica Borkh.) fruit applied with preload 1-MCP (1.0 μL/L, 16 h) followed by ventilation (8 h) and 10, 20, or 40 μL/L ethylene (16 h) treatments or by ventilation (8 h and/or 56 h) and ethylene (10 μL/L, 16 h) treatments had higher flesh weight, titratable acidity, and flesh firmness at 7, 14, 21, and 28 days following application of ethylene than those of control. Soluble solids contents were not significantly affected by pre- or postloaded-1-MCP on ethylene treatments. Higher flesh weight, titratable acidity, and firmness in fruit were maintained by preloading with ethylene (10 μL/L, 16 h) followed by ventilation (8 h) and 0.5, 1.0, or 2.0 μL/L 1-MCP treatments or by ventilation (8 h and/or 56 h) and 1-MCP (1.0 μL/L, 16 h) treatments at 7, 14, 21, and 28 days following application of 1-MCP.
