In this chapter, we review the progress being made in synthesizing such pulses via molecular modulation in a solid-state medium. We briefly discuss the theoretical background and foundation. We summarize a decade of experimental developments and consider the main discoveries in terms of optimal conditions for broadband Raman generation. We present several successful schemes for generating sub-10. fs waveforms, and finally combine temporal with spatial shaping via optical vortices to investigate the transfer of orbital angular momentum in the Raman process.
