Mites: a primary food source for two predators in San Joaquin Valley cotton. Academic Article uri icon

abstract

  • Predators collected consistently at levels of one or more per cotton plant were big-eyed bug Geocoris pallens and minute-pirate bug Orius tristicolor. A complex of mites, mainly Tetranychus urticae and T. turkestani, and western flower thrips Frankliniella occidentalis, were the only prey collected consistently at levels of 5 or more per plant. Field trials suggest that economic thresholds should take into account the value of 'secondary pests' as food for predators. -P.J.Jarvisbig eyed bug Geocoris pallens minute pirate bug Orius tristicolor Tetranychus urticae Tetranychus turkestani western flower thrips Frankliniella occidentalis
