abstract
The economic importance of Heliothis larval damage depends not only on the intensity of damage during a particular stage of plant growth but also on subsequent damage. Early season damage may enhance yield with only a delay in crop maturation, while late season, damage can cause a yield with only a delay in crop maturation, while late season damage can cause a yield reduction. In general, earlier and more intense the damage to fruiting structures (flower buds, flowers, bolls), higher the yield and greater the delay in crop maturation; while later and more intense the damage, lower the yield and less the effect on crop maturation. -from Authors
