abstract
Two new copepods are described from anchialine and littoral caves on the Balearic and Philippine archipelagos. Thompsonopia gen. nov. is erected to accommodate the Balearic taxon, and two species of Pseudocyclopia T. Scott, 1892 are transferred to the new genus, viz. P. stephoides Thompson, 1895 and P. muranoi Ohtsuka, 1992. A new species from the Philippines is assigned to Stygocyclopia Jaume & Boxshall, 1995, and the amazing discovery of S. balearica Jaume & Boxshall, 1995 in anchialine environments on Lanzarote is reported and discussed. The swimming habits of the latter taxon are briefly described. The diagnoses of Pseudocyclopia, Stygocyclopia, and of the family Pseudocyclopiidae T. Scott, 1892 are emended. 1999 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
