abstract
A new design strategy for cost-effective construction of highly integrated ceramic microchannel networks by combining precision-machined distributors with extruded ceramic materials is presented. A proof-of-concept device is detailed for coupling exothermic combustion with endothermic steam reforming of methanol for autothermal hydrogen production. Results indicate the viability of this new design strategy and allow identification of further points of design refinement. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the 8th World Congress of Chemical Engineering (Montreal, Quebec, Canada 8/23-27/2009).
