Integrated pathway optimization for biorefineries Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • This work proposes a new systematic approach to find the optimal pathway of a biorefinery considering simultaneous the selection of the products, feedstocks and processing steps, the model is based on a disjunctive programming formulation. The proposed model also allows selecting several products and feedstocks in the optimal solution. Also is possible considering the simultaneous maximization of the net profit and the minimization of the greenhouse gas emissions. The applicability of the proposed methodology is shown through a case study for the optimal pathway of a biorefinery and several scenarios have been analyzed. Results show that the combination of different feedstocks and products allows compensating simultaneously the economic and environmental objectives.
