abstract

  • A survey of 71 free-ranging and 29 farmed alligators (Alligator mississippiensis) for Salmonella was conducted in southeast Texas and south Louisiana (USA) from September 1992 to September 1995. Salmonella spp- were isolated more commonly in indoor farmed animals (20%) than wild animals (2.8%). There was no difference in prevalence between wild adult (> 1.83 m) and wild subadult alligators (< 1.83 m).
