ECONOMIC IMPLICATIONS OF CHANGING GROUNDWATER USE PATTERNS. Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • At this time, Texas does not have a groundwater law similar to that enacted by Arizona. Due to the nature of major aquifers and the magnitude of the demand for water, however, adjustments in groundwater use will occur. The purpose of this paper is to provide a brief overview of groundwater use in the West and specifically in Texas, to identify the value of water in alternative uses, and to address economic implications of adjustments in use for the Ogallala, Edwards, and Gulf Coast aquifers.
