abstract
A spontaneous osteosarcoma in the limb of a dog had atypical histologic and ultrastructural appearances, and a hyperdyploid karyotype. Malignant cells aggregated into nodular structures, within which tumor osteoid was deposited. Tumor cells showed cytodifferentiation toward osteoblasts, with development of a relatively conspicuous rough endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi zones. Junctional contacts were commonly found between contiguous tumor cells. The finding of a hyperdyploid karyotype in component cells was in contradistinction to the reported hypodyploid state of canine osteosarcomas. Copyright 1974 American Cancer Society
