abstract
The challenging nature of many military operations has recently inspired a great deal of interest in unmanned system development. One of the major initiatives for the DoD Advanced Research Project Agency is the Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) Program. This paper considers several key advantages that UGVs enjoy over related Unmanned Aerial Vehicle systems, and presents several scenarios which illustrate the value of unique and innovative UGV oriented research. In keeping with the DoD sponsorship of the program, these scenarios are oriented on military requirements.
