abstract

  • The success of a product in the market depends on how fast the manufacturer will respond to the need that the product is intended to fulfill. The product development time for a product is comprised of design time, prototype production and testing time, production planning and tooling time, and commercial production time. Using the conventional product development methods, the design phase and prototype production and testing phase are very time consuming and costly tasks. The above tasks increase the product price thus reducing the market edge of the product. In order to solve the above problems, it will be advantageous to merge some of the development tasks in such a way that the tasks can be done concurrently or intrinsically. In order to achieve the above goal, rapid prototyping (RP) can be used to merge the design phase and prototype and testing phase. RP is normally being used to visualize parts in the design stage.
