abstract

  • 2016 American Society of Civil Engineers. Remote laboratory has played an important role in online learning. It is also an effective tool for the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education. Meanwhile, the collaborative and cooperative learning has been proved to be a very effective approach for STEM learning. In order to enhance the remote experiment for STEM learning, a wiki-based novel collaborative, and cooperative remote laboratory architecture is proposed in this paper. The design and implementation process of the novel collaborative and cooperative remote laboratory architecture is presented. A remote smart vibration platform (SVP) experiment is successfully revamped to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed novel architecture. The students can effectively learn engineering knowledge with collaborative and cooperative way via using most of popular web browsers on desktops or portable devices without installing any plug-in.
