abstract
This research focuses on determininig the optimal intervention time for hemodialysis patients. These patients undergo surgery to establish a special type of connection (access), between artery and vein to facilitate dialysis. Life of an access gets shortened due to a phenomenon called stenosis. According to statistics stenosis is the primary causes of morbidity among hemodialysis patients. But no precise guideline exists delineating an optimal treatment plan. We employ a novel approach where the stenosis growth is modeled as Gomperz diffusion process and the treatment time is computed by solving an optimal stopping problem, in order to maximize a patient's QALY.
