This paper presents the feasibility study of an experimental attitude sensor for a three-axis stabilized spacecraft whose nominal mode of operation is to track the moon and record its images. By the image processing and the data reduction this sensor provides redundant attitude data for the attitude estimation in a standalone configuration, The moon orbit, magnitude and visibility have been analyzed and the used reference systems as well as the data reduction have briefly outlined. The cost of this instrument is expected to be low. Therefore, it can be quite suitable for those spacecraft for which a no high accuracy attitude estimation is required.
