Microwave plasma-electron beam interactions for hypersonic flow control uri icon

abstract

  • A novel approach is developed to control microwave plasmas using electron beams. Electron beams provide high spatial resolution and ease of steering and modulation, while microwave plasmas efficiency couple power into high-pressure plasmas. Results on the microwave plasma-electron beam interaction experiment indicates that microwave plasmas are initiated at pressure above 10 Torr using the low power electron beam. Comparison with Monte carlo simulations indicates that window composition and thickness is considered to decrease beam width, and improves plasma control.
