abstract
The design of appropriate electrodes is of critical importance for the efficient operation of magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) power generation devices on re-entering space vehicles. In particular, thermionic emission from the cathode is necessary to produce adequate current to generate significant quantities of power. This paper describes some experiments performed on thermionically emitting materials and links the experimental results to numerical models of current flow between MHD electrodes. 2005 by Princeton University.
