Comparison of numerical and experimental results from localized, microwave driven plasma energy addition into a Mach 3 flow Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • The goal of this study is to determine the influence of localized energy addition into supersonic flow on the temperature field and Mach number of the flow, and the shock structure and pressure distribution around a body in the flow. Of particular interest is the possibility of using the flow field perturbations caused by local energy deposition to produce controllable forces and moments on a body in the flow. The design and testing of the experimental facility used in this study is detailed, and comparisons of the performance of the facility are made with CFD calculations. 2001 Princeton University.
