abstract
Genetic control of plasma esterase activity in the predominant electrophoretic band has been described for the Norway rat. The allele responsible for the presence of this band of activity has been designated Es-2a and the alternative allele that, when homozygous, results in almost total absence of the band has been designated Es-2b. Inheritance is autosomal and phenotyping of Es-2a/Es-2a and Es-2a/Es-2b individuals is facilitated by densitometer scanning of the stained gels. 1972 American Genetic Association.
