abstract
The LEPA (low pressure precision application) concept grew out of efforts by agricultural engineers at Texas A&M University to develop a system that would reduce the energy requirements of mechanical-move systems, while maximizing the use of both rainfall and applied irrigation water. Since the concept was first introduced in 1981, LEPA has been transformed into various commercial products that are now installed on over 400 pivots in Texas. This paper reviews the development and adoption of LEPA in Texas and presents conversion and management recommendations.
